The Issues

I am a strong and solid voice for everyday citizens. Right now, Texas needs improved schools and I will work with educators to bring quality education to our children. Well-educated people supply capable employees for our workforce. Capable employees build competitive businesses and competitive businesses mean a strong economy for our State. A strong economy for our State brings a higher standard of living to all of our families. Those are the real family values we need.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my campaign to represent the 99th District in the Texas House of Representatives.
Signed, Sheila Ford

What does Real Change Mean?

Real Change is being responsive to local concerns.

Limit the power of lobbyists and special interests in Austin by demanding open, honest government.

Guarding Our Public Schools

Sheila won’t tie the hands of educators. We need to keep our public tax dollars going to our schools where they will provide the resources for our children to succeed.
Real change means bringing the quality of our schools into the Top 5 of the nation, not leaving them to languish in the Bottom 5.

Real Energy Policy, Here & Now

North Texas is in a unique position to use our local resources to provide our local energy. Using natural gas, wind & solar energy to reduce our utility bills, to decrease our dependence on foreign oil, cutting the wealth transfer to countries that hate us.
North Texans must be the first to benefit from the Barnett Shale.

Economy With a Purpose

Economic Development focused on local business, the only real source of stable, well-paying jobs.

It’s time for Texas to have the commanding worldwide presence in technological investment and innovation.
We can make it happen by:

  • Investing in creating tier one research centers in Texas universities.
  • Directing our Texas Public investment activities into Texas focused business.
  • Providing incentives for “green” jobs created here in Texas
  • Providing assistance to “green” technology innovators who locate in Texas

Keeping All Politics Local

We can’t change Austin by just voting for President. I’m asking you to vote for change by voting for local Democratic representation.
Together, we can bring good government to Texans.

Does Sheila Support a Woman’s Right to Choose?

Yes. Sheila also supports efforts in education and women’s reproductive healthcare to reduce the statistics. Sheila has also signed the NARAL Prevention First Pledge.

What about Tort Reform?

The tort reform we went through recently has resulted in a vacuum in the regulation of the medical profession in Texas. It is important to find ways to regulate the industry, to safeguard good doctors, and rout out the bad ones. Currently, it is too expensive to prosecute many medical malpractice cases, and that is BAD for Texans’ health.

Does Sheila Support Gun Rights of Texans?

Yes, Sheila has successfully defended gun rights cases in court. While there are many issues surrounding gun rights, she currently supports the status quo in Texas law for gun owners and their rights. New legislation should be carefully considered for all of its impacts, both on gun owner rights and society at large.
